Lady Newton earns second straight, lifetime mark in Meadows distaff pace

Washington, PA, — Lady Newton stalked her stablemate, Blue Ivy, from the pocket, then blew by in deep stretch to capture her second straight in a career-best 1:50.4 in Wednesday’s (June 1) $16,000 Filly & Mare Open Handicap Pace at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

The back half went a sizzling :55, but Blue Ivy couldn’t shake Lady Newton, who downed her by 3/4 lengths for Ridge Warren, with Game Of Shadows third. The top two provided an exacta sweep for trainer Bill Bercury and owner Renee Bercury.

A four-year-old daughter of Sweet Lou-I’m Sassy, Lady Newton extended her lifetime bankroll to $157,634. It was one of three wins for Warren on the 13-race card.

Wednesday’s Super Hi-5 was taken down, with the lone winning ticket returning $19,929.88.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Thursday when the 12-race program features a $9,070.22 carryover in the Jackpot Pick-5 (race 4.) First post is 12:45 p.m.
