Saint K holds on, wins Meadows feature

Washington, PA — Saint K quarter-moved to the top and had just enough late to capture Wednesday’s (Dec. 14) feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, a $15,400 conditioned trot.

Saint K was up to Believer’s first-over challenge, but came under siege in the lane by Goodashim. The 4-year-old Sebastian K-Mauresmo gelding dug in for Shawn Johnston and edged Goodashim by a nose in 1:55, with early leader Windsong Patriot finishing third.

Sarah Andrews trains Saint K and shares ownership with Angela Cornell and Tessie Esry.

Jeremy Indof collected three wins on the 13-race card, including a pair for trainer Dirk Simpson.

It’s been a rich week for milestones for Meadows horsemen.

Dave Palone collected his 400th win this season at The Meadows when he piloted Emotions Durables to victory in Wednesday’s first race. Earlier in the week, trainer Randy Bendis passed $32 million in career purses. Bendis will achieve another milestone shortly, needing 12 wins to reach 4,000 for his career. Bendis’ actual totals likely exceed the official counts, as he was an active trainer and driver before the USTA began compiling and archiving trainer statistics in 1991.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Thursday (Dec. 15), when the 13-race program features a pair of carryovers: $2,550.65 in the Jackpot Pick-5 (races 4-8) and $1,725.03 in the final-race Jackpot Super Hi-5. First post is 12:45 p.m.
