East Rutherford, NJ- Two GSY events were carded on Friday (Feb. 24) night under a fast track with frigid conditions and a negative one track variant.
In the first race on the card, several horses vied for the lead under fast fractions in :27.1. Jerrytone (John Calabrese) finally cleared but paid the price to get there and went a brisk half in :55.2. With Howtotrainurdragon (Newton “Yogi” Sheridan) parked for the entire mile, he was able to clear heading into the stretch and looked like a winner heading for home. That is until he shortened strides midway down the lane and faded as the rest of the closers came calling from all angles. In the end, it was the old classy veteran, Rock To Glory (Bruno Chiodo) who got up on the outside by a neck over the favorite Bilbo Hanover (Neil Glasser) and Mv Ok Palacio Br (David Glasser) picked up the show dough. Newcomer from overseas, Ryan Inglis shook free late aboard Pointsman to finish fourth. The mile went in 1:55.0.
The winner paid $29 to win and kept the streak lately of double-digit winners at the windows. The 15-year-old gelding is owned by Chiodo Racing LLC out of NJ and is trained by his wife, Stacy Chiodo.
In the ninth race on the card, there was three horses leaving for the top and Sports Hero (Nicole Dicostanzo) gave out the parking ticket to Mister Daytona N (Tony Beltrami) and Beach Baby Bee(Tony Verruso) sat the pocket. They went a :28.2 quarter and a half in :56. Nicole looked like she was backing up through the field as Verruso and Calabrese made moves on the outside. In the stretch, Texas Terror N (John Calabrese) made a move and cleared to the lead and ended up winning by just over a length while Dicostanzo closed back on for a good second while Captain’s Reign (Dakota Jackson) finished third. The mile went in 1:54.3.
