Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA — Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.

RACING SCHEDULE
We remain in our winter three-day-per-week racing schedule, Wednesday through Friday afternoons at 12:45 p.m. This schedule will remain in place through the end of March.

INCREASING ACTION FOR BETTORS
Handle at The Meadows has seen a significant increase since the start of the 2023 racing season. Thursday’s (March 2) handle of more than $852,000 for the 13-race card was the largest since Adios Day in July 2022. The current wagering menu, which eliminated Jackpot wagers and added net-pool carryovers in the Pick-4, Superfecta and Pentafecta, has proven to be popular among racing fans.

SERIES RACES BEGIN WEDNESDAY
Wednesday’s card at The Meadows features one division of the Donna Dunn Memorial Pacing Series, the first early-closing event of the season. A field of 10 has drawn into the sixth race on the card, for 3- and 4-year-old fillies and mares. Horses will be attempting to earn points toward the final which will take place on Wednesday (March 22). On Thursday, it will be the first leg for two series, the Dale McConnell Memorial (3- and 4-year-old male trotters) and Mary Wohlmuth Memorial (3- and 4-year-old female trotters). Friday’s card will feature 3- and 4-year-old male pacers in the Wilbur Zendt Memorial.

APRIL SERIES NOMINATIONS DUE
As the first round of Spring series get underway, horse owners and trainers need to start thinking about the April events, which will be solely for 3-year-old trotters and pacers. Nominations must be postmarked by March 15. For more information, follow this link.
