Bangor, ME — Shawn Thayer pieced together a devious performance at Bangor Raceway on Sunday (May 28), spinning a sterling three win performance in front of an enthusiastic Memorial Day holiday weekend crowd at historic Bass Park.

Thayer’s devil in question was none other than a precocious sophomore pacer named The Devils Cash (Fearless Diablo-Racey Date) whose prospects appear on the ascendancy for owner/trainer Douglas Beckwith.

Content to play second fiddle in the early going on Sunday, Thayer powered his charge to the lead just past the half. Never looking in the rear view mirror, they sprinted to a 4-1/4 length victory timed in a lifetime best 1:57.1 while returning a hefty $31.20 win ticket at the windows.

The win was one of two on the program for trainer Beckwith who once again teamed up with Thayer with Pillage And Burn (2:00, $22.60) as the 12-year-old veteran pacer picked up the 38th win of his career.

Thayer later capped his hat trick day, eking out a nose victory with The Spy (1:58.1, $6.20) after stalking the front-running Rocknrolwilneverdie to the wire, securing the 40th career win for the 11-year-old son of American Ideal.

In other Bangor news, driver Kevin Switzer Jr. continued his torrid ways, scoring a driving double on the matinee card while trainer Neal Grass also doubled his pleasure in the win column on Sunday.

Last but not least, it was a profitable day for the price players at Bangor on Sunday as only one winning favorite appeared on the infield tote board. The average win price emerging from the “Calc Room” was a generous $13.40; a tribute to the competitive cards being assembled this season by rookie race secretary Jean Thayer.
