World champ Tequila Talkin wins at The Meadows despite tough trip

Washington, PA — Fresh off a world-record performance last week, Tequila Talkin was dominant again, capturing the $21,200 Open Handicap Trot at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows despite a parked-out opening half.

Tequila Talkin left from post seven for Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. and had to endure that wide :55.3 opening half. It didn’t seem to bother the 8-year-old Cantab Hall-Margarita Nights gelding, who wouldn’t let the pocket-sitting Saint K (Drew Monti) gain any ground, defeating him by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:52.1. Whiskey Blu (Dan Charlino) completed the ticket.

On May 21, Tequila Talkin scored at MGM Northfield in 1:51.3, becoming the fastest gelding trotter ever on a half-mile track. Ron Burke trains him for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. Tequila Talkin now boasts a career bankroll of $436,742.

Mike Wilder and Wrenn each piloted three winners on the 12-race card.

Saturday’s 13-race card at The Meadows features a pair of stakes for 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters: a $142,946 Pennsylvania Sires Stake and a $60,000 PA Stallion Series event. First post is 12:45 p.m.
