Meadows Monday Memo: June 26, 2023

Washington, PA — Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.

60 YEARS OF RACING
The Meadows opened on June 28, 1963, and this week the track is celebrating 60 years of racing. We will mark the occasion this Friday night (June 30) during our 5:10 p.m. card.

THIS WEEK’S SCHEDULE
Hollywood Casino at The Meadows will be racing our regular summer schedule this week: Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at 12:45 p.m., Friday evening at 5:10 p.m., and Saturday at 12:45 p.m.

WEDNESDAY VALUE
The card this past Wednesday (June 21) featured some large prices to start the week. Three winners paid $20 or higher, including a $186.40 win ticket on 90-1 Quinndelynn. Despite finishing second the previous week, the Wilbur Yoder-trained and -driven filly was lightly regarded by the bettors and went wire-to-wire despite pressure the entire mile. Even with five favorites winning for the afternoon, the lowest exacta payoff was $12.20, with only two exactas returning lower than $20. The highest was the $770 exacta keyed by Quinndelynn. Overall, exacta payoffs for the day averaged $109.

POP UP SERIES BEGIN WEDNESDAY
The Meadows will be hosting Pop Up Series races for freshmen starting this week. Each series will feature two $10,000 legs and a final. Two divisions of 2-year-old filly pacers will compete on Wednesday, with two divisions of rookie colt trotters on Thursday. The draw has not yet taken place for Friday, but 2-year-old colt pacers will be featured on the Friday card. The pop up series for 2-year-old filly trotters will begin a week later, as the first stake races of the summer for freshmen will take place this Saturday, with Pennsylvania Sire Stakes and Stallion Series action for that class.
