Berlin, MD — The finest 3-year-olds that Maryland has to offer were on display Wednesday (June 28) at Ocean Downs as sophomore trotting fillies and pacing colts contested their Maryland Sire Stakes preliminaries.
In the first trotting preliminary, Call Me Goo ($2.40), a daughter of trotting stallion Googoo Gaagaa, was content taking a two-hole trip behind pace setter Goolishness and then exploded in the stretch to post an easy 3-1/2-length victory in 1:58.1.
Owned by the Graham Grace Stables and trained by Jason Skinner, the filly pushed her seasonal earnings to $60,000 and her lifetime winnings over $127,000. Ocean Downs’ leading driver Jonathan Roberts was in the sulky.
In the pacing division, Babes All In, a rapid son of Rustys All In, made no mistakes in posting a wire-to-wire win in 1:55, besting Smooth Rocket by a half length.
Owned and trained by Ron Short, of Greenwood, Del., the gelding has now won over $41,000 in 2023 and moved his lifetime money over $82,000. The winner returned $6.60.
Both divisions return for their second preliminary round on July 12.
