Ohio Sires Stakes 2-year-old action opens Saturday at Eldorado Scioto Downs

Grove City, OH — Next Generation winners Midwind Beach Boy and Majestic Seas will look to make it two in a row to start their careers as they headline the opening of the 2-year-old division of the Ohio Sires Stakes. Five divisions of freshman colt pacers and four divisions of freshman filly pacers take to the track Saturday night (July 8) at Eldorado Scioto Downs. Each division will carry a purse of $40,000.

Midwind Beach Boy (Downbytheseaside) rallied from mid-pack around the final turn to win the $150,000 Preferred Equine Next Generation for freshman colt pacers Saturday night (July 1) by a half-length. Chris Page will have the lines again for trainer Ron Burke.

In the $150,000 Preferred Equine Next Generation for the filly pacers, Magestic Seas (Downbytheseaside) and Ronnie Wrenn Jr. held on down the stretch to win by a neck. Wrenn will get the call again to drive for trainer Brian Brown in the first division.

The second division for the fillies features Seaside Diva (Downbytheseaside) who finished second behind Magestic Seas in the Next Generation. She has two second-place finishes in her two starts this year. Burke trains Seaside Diva and will have Page driving.

In the third division, Burke and Page will send Seaside Story (Downbytheseaside) to the gate. She is the early 5-2 favorite. Cruiser Cancelled (Yankee Cruiser), the second choice, will look for her third win in as many starts for trainer Steve Carter. Austin Hanners will be in the bike.

In the final division Seaside Streaker (Downbytheseaside) is the early favorite. The 3-1 choice is trained by Jeff Nisonger who will have Dan Noble driving. Razzin Jazz (Racing Hill) is the only filly with a win in the race. Chris Presley trains Razzin Jazz and will drive.

In the first division for the colt pacers, trainer Mike Polhamus will send Nakedatthebar (Racing Hill) to the gate. The 7-2 favorite finished second in his only start this year. Kayne Kauffman gets the call in the sulky.

The second division will feature nine maidens, four that are making their first career starts. First-time starter Seasideescape (Downbytheseaside) is the morning line favorite. Wrenn will get the lines for Brown.

In the third division, Janelle Granny (Fear The Dragon) and Hundred Dollar Man (Lather Up), the second- and third-place finishers in the Next Generation will square off. Nick Clegg will drive Janelle Granny for his wife Betty Clegg while Montrell Teague will drive Hundred Dollar Man for trainer Clyde Francis. Carter trainee Dragons Better (Fear The Dragon) has two wins in two starts this year. Hanners will drive the early line second choice.

In the fourth division, Clever Cody (The Panderosa) is the 3-2 favorite for trainer Dr. Ian Moore. Wrenn drove Clever Cody to a fourth-place finish in the Next Generation. He will be in the bike again Saturday night.

First race post time is 5:50 p.m.
