Berlin, MD — Ocean Downs hosted the final 3-year-old preliminaries of Maryland Sire Stakes leading to the Sophomore Showcase on Wednesday (July 19) with four $85,000 finals.
Call Me Goo (Googoo Gaagaa) continued to dominate the trotting fillies, scoring her fifth stakes win in a row. Reinsman Jonathan Roberts guided Call Me Goo to the perfect pocket trip behind Goolishness (Googoo Gaagaa), charging down the stretch to secure the win by a neck in the last stride of the 1:59.1 mile. Jason Skinner trains the winner for Graham Grace Stables. The breeder is William ‘Bib’ Roberts.
The pacing colts went to post in race five before the large crowd on Carnival Night. Smooth Rocket (Cam’s Rocket) with Russell Foster between the wheels, charged out of the gate to control every fraction of the 1:56.1 mile, winning by a length over Babes All In (Rusty’s All In), scoring his fifth win in eight starts in 2023. Smooth Rocket is owned by Russell Foster Racing, trained by Megan Foster and bred by Brian Emerson.
