Amigo Volo picks up first win of season in Pocono featured trot

Wilkes-Barre, PA – Decorated trotter Amigo Volo made his way into the win column for the first time in 2023 on Sunday night (July 30), scoring in the featured condition trot at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania. The race was for non-winners of $20,000 in the last four starts and carried a purse of $16,500.

Leaving from post position five in a field of six, the six-year-old gelding trained by Nifty Norman was made the 1-5 betting favorite. He sat patiently in third most of the race while Rich And Miserable, the 3-1 second choice, set a comfortable pace. With no outer flow developing, driver Matt Kakaley was able to stay patient with Amigo Volo before cutting him loose on the final turn. The gelding managed to chase down Rich And Miserable to beat him by a head in 1:53:4. P L Notsonice finished third.

Amigo Volo, a Breeders Crown champion at ages two and three, won for the first time in seven races this year and picked up his 27th career victory. With the winner’s share of the purse, his career earnings now stand at $2,037, 039.

Pocono Downs resumes live harness racing on Monday afternoon (July 31) with a first post time of 1 p.m. ET. There are 14 races on the Pocono Monday program.
