Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA — Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.

BURKE STABLE, OTHERS STEPPING UP TO HELP TIOGA HORSEMEN
Several local horsemen have been stepping up to aid those that lost horses and equipment in the tragic barn fire last week at Tioga Downs. In addition to many private donations from individual horsemen, one local stable has placed stallion breedings on the auction website onGait.com to benefit the cause. Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi have donated breedings to All Bets Off (Ontario), Lou’s Pearlman (Ohio) and Summa Cum Laude (Ohio). “Mark and I decided to do this in hopes that it can help even be a drop in the bucket for what they need to help them get through what must be the worst thing ever,” said Ron Burke. The auctions will close on Tuesday afternoon.

JENSON RETURNS FROM MINNESOTA
Trainer Brady Jenson, who in recent years has split his season between Running Aces and The Meadows, has returned to Western Pennsylvania for the fall/winter. Jenson won 10 of 84 starts locally early in 2023 before returning home to the Midwest. He also started to pick up catch-drives in the spring, winning seven of 65 races. Since most of his 12 horses haven’t raced since the end of the Running Aces meet, they will need to qualify so look for his horses to start showing up in the entry box over the next three weeks. Another Minnesota regular, Rick Magee, has recorded two Meadows starts as a trainer in the last two weeks, winning both.

RACING THIS WEEK
This week will feature our regular fall schedule, with racing on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons, all at 12:45 p.m. The lone change in the November schedule is that we will not race live on Thanksgiving Day.
