MADC races recap from Friday night at the Big M

East Rutherford, NJ – With the temperatures in the mid-40s, a constant rain and a sloppy track, the MADC series featured three races on the Friday night (Dec. 1) card. As always, the races featured a lot of speed and all three winners turned out to not be the post-time favorites.

In the first race on the card, it was the British invader Ryan Inglis took the top spot after the quarter (27.1) with P L Portia. He never really had an anxious moment and ended up winning by half a length over longshot Meet The Creeper (Bruno Chiodo) while Kissinbythebeaches (Peter Kleinhans) rounded out the trifecta. It was the first win in the US for this driver who may be over here for a while. The mile was timed in 1:54.4. The 4-year old mare is owned by Ryan Clements out of Ontario and is trained by Justin Sodano.

In the fourth race, it was the pocket sitter Always’s Close (Newton “Yogi” Sheridan), who sat patiently behind pace setter Cloudbreak (Kubi Erzene) for more than half a mile before making his move to the lead and eventually hold on for the victory by three-quarters of a length over some of the late closers. Shortys Girl (Jake Stillwell) finished second and Whammer Jammer (James Slendorn) finished third. This mile was timed in 1:55.1. The 7-year old gelding is owned by David Dobbelman out of MN and is trained by Edwin Quevedo.

In the eighth and final MADC race of the night, it was another patient pocket-sitting drive by Newton “Yogi” Sheridan aboard Prince Mcardle N, who let Its Showtime (Tony Beltrami) take the lead after the quarter pole and pounced on him in the stretch to win by 3-3/4 lengths. Beltrami held on for second while T Dog (Michael Kimelman) rounded out the trifecta. The mile went in a sizzling 1:52.3 in the poor racing conditions. The 10-year old gelding is owned and trained by Izzy Estrada and his Estrada Racing LLC out of NJ.

The MADC will be back next Friday night (Dec. 8) for more exciting harness racing action. Post time is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
