Necropsy results on Meadowlands equine fatality

East Rutherford, NJ — On Friday (Jan. 26) the 5-year-old pacing mare Phenom Seelster died during the contesting of race seven on the card at The Meadowlands.

Phenom Seelster was owned by Daniel Sarafian, trained by Per Engblom and driven on that night by Matt Athearn.

As is done in all cases of equine mortality at Meadowlands, Tioga and Vernon Downs, Phenom Seelster was sent for a necropsy at the expense of the racetrack.

The necropsy was performed at the New Jersey Animal Health Diagnostic Lab which reported the cause of death as a ruptured pulmonary artery aneurysm.
