Last call for May 15 stakes payments

The May 15 deadline is drawing near for many stakes payments. Below are a list of notices that have recently been submitted to the USTA Newsroom. The following information regarding upcoming stakes payments is not meant to be a complete list of every required stakes payment. It is a list of only those notifications that have been provided directly to the USTA for posting here. For more information on payments, click here.

NYSS yearling eligibility payments and nominations due 

Albany, NY — The New York Sire Stakes 2024 horse eligibility payments for all yearling colts and fillies are due May 15. To comply, the Sire Stakes No. 65 nomination form must be completed, mailed and postmarked by May 15 along with payments and proof of registration.

All checks should be made out to the Agriculture & NYS Horse Breeding Development Fund and mailed to: Agriculture & NYS Horse Breeding Development Fund, 230 Washington Avenue Extension, Suite 101, Albany, NY 12203.

Woodbine Mohawk stakes nominations due May 15

Milton, ON — The Woodbine Mohawk Park Race Office would like to remind all racing participants of a variety of stakes nominations and sustaining fees that are due on Wednesday (May 15).

May payments due in Maryland

Ocean Pines, MD — Two-year-old payments (foals of 2022) are due to the Maryland Standardbred Fund and the Maryland Sire Stakes on May 15. This payment is 2-year-olds that will be racing in 2024.

Yearling nominations (foals of 2023) to the Maryland Standardbred Fund and the Maryland Sire Stakes are also due on May 15.

All checks must be made out to the Maryland Standardbred Race Fund.

We recommend that all payments be sent by certified mail or priority mail with tracking. Please note the mailing address: P.O. Box 1530, Ocean Pines, MD 21811.

Delaware (Ohio) Grand Circuit yearling reminder

Delaware, OH — Owners are reminded that the yearling nomination payments for the Delaware (Ohio) Grand Circuit events for foals of 2023 (to be raced in 2026) are due May 15. Also due are the nomination payments for the Standardbreds (2-year-old events) for foals of 2023 and to be raced in 2025.

The nomination fees are as follows:

Little Brown Jug (No. 81) and Jugette (No. 56) – $50
Old Oaken Bucket and Buckette (No. 74) – $25
Standardbreds (No. 86) – $25

Thanks to the generosity of the Ohio Harness Horseman’s Association, the OHHA will nominate all Ohio-bred foals of 2023 that have been registered with the USTA as of May 15, 2024, to the Little Brown Jug (No. 81), Jugette (No. 56), Old Oaken Bucket (No. 74) and Buckette (No. 74). The foal’s owner will be responsible for all future payments. Foals not registered by May 15 can be made eligible by Aug. 15, 2024, by paying the late nomination fee.

NJSS yearling nominations due May 15

Trenton, NJ — This is a reminder for all New Jersey Sire Stakes participating owners that payments for yearling nominations are due on Wednesday (May 15).

Mass stake 2024 yearling nomination payments due May 15

Plainville, MA — Owners and trainers of foals who are eligible to the Massachusetts Sire Stakes should take note that the 2024 nominating payments are due on Wednesday (May 15).

Foals of 2023 from a resident mare registered with the Standardbred Owners of Massachusetts, Inc. and the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources are eligible for registration to the Massachusetts breeding program.

Yearling registration requires a copy of the USTA registration certificate and the fee of $25 and are both due on May 15. Late registration will be accepted until Dec. 31, 2024. Late registration requires a copy of the USTA registration certificate and the May 15 fee of $25 plus a $500 late fee.

The necessary form for this payment is available for download at sominc.net under the “forms” tab.

SBOANJ yearling nominations, sustaining payments due May 15

Manalapan, NJ — Yearling nominations and sustaining payments for stakes sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey (SBOANJ) are due May 15.

The fee to nominate a yearling to the Garden State Trot #8 is $25. The fee for the Home Grown Pace #8 is $25 for all New Jersey-sired yearlings and those who are nominated to the New Jersey Sire Stakes-Standardbred Development Fund program. The fee for horses who are not New Jersey-sired or have not beennominated to the SDF program but were foaled in New Jersey is $150.

Two-year-old sustaining payments for the Garden State Trot #7 and Home Grown Pace #7 are also due on May 15. The Garden State Trot second payment is $400; the Home Grown Pace second payment is $300.

Washington Court House, OH — May 15 yearling staking payments are due for the Dr. H.M. Parshall Memorial Stakes #73.

Florida payments due May 15

Pompano Beach, FL — Payments for Florida bred foals of 2023 are due by May 15.

Yearlings (Foals of 2023):
May 15 – Florida Breeders – $25
May 15 – Sunshine Stakes – $25
May 15 – Stallion Stake – $50

Remember, if you have an out-of-state sired foal, you’re not eligible for the Stallion Stake payment.

DSBF nominating payments for yearlings due May 15

Dover, DE — DSBF nominating payments for yearlings are due to be postmarked by May 15.

Any yearling by a 2022 Delaware registered sire is eligible.

As stated on the forms a copy of the USTA registration paper is required. If held electronically then the USTA Pathway report of “Basic Horse” is acceptable in pdf format.

Forms were mailed and are available online or by e-mail request to Judy.Davis-Wilson@delaware.gov.

Credit card payments are accepted and highly recommended and can be made online at the above web address. Click on label for online portal and put the name of the horse in the invoice number field. Also, you can put multiple horses in one transaction.

Maine Sire Stake program sustaining and yearling nomination deadline is May 15

Stetson, ME — The deadline for the Maine Sire Stake program 2- and 3-year-old sustaining and yearling nomination forms is May 15.
