MADC features trio of races Friday at Big M

East Rutherford, NJ — Despite rainy conditions, Friday night’s (May 10) trio of Meadowlands Amateur Driving Club (MADC) events at the Meadowlands provided a lot of action and a form reversal, with two of the three betting favorites winning while the other top choice finished second.

The first race had plenty of speed and action throughout the mile, which featured a two-way scrum for over half the mile between long shot Chip Walther (Tony Beltrami), who handed out the “summons” to favorite Lincoln Boulevard (Joe Lee), who was parked on the outer limb. These two seemed like they were going to duel themselves into defeat after a fast :55.2 first half mile, but the closers in this field couldn’t muster up a late rally. Lee and Lincoln Boulevard prevailed by two lengths over the good going in 1:54.2. Another long shot, Harry Hanover (James Slendorn) came home nicely to finish second, a nose ahead of Bilbo Hanover (Neil Glasser).

Julius Czermann Jr. trains the 6-year-old Lincoln Boulevard for owner Joseph Loprete out of New Jersey.

In the fifth race, there was a brief anxious moment for Marty Monkhouser A (Victoria Stratton), who gained command just after a moderate first quarter in :28.1 and the rest is history. She slowed the pace down even further to the half and had plenty in the tank in the stretch to win by over three lengths in 1:54.3. The post-time favorite and pocket sitter, Yayas Hot Spot N (Newton “Yogi” Sheridan), could get no closer but held on for second over a hard-charging Stolen Art (William Clark Jr.), who rounded out the trifecta. Stratton’s husband, Cory, trains the 15-year-old warhorse for owners VIP Internet Stable and Stratton Stable Inc.

In the ninth race, several horses left for the lead with two of them getting parked on the outside for the entire mile. This race featured two new combatants, both at double-digit odds, with Menlo Park (Michael Girouard) handing out the parking ticket to Dandy Ideav(Sheridan), they dueled themselves into defeat. It was a well-timed sweep to the front on the inside by odds-on favorite Warrawee Yankee (Mark Silva), who ended up winning by just over a length over Lovethewayyoulie (Bruno Chiodo) in 1:54.2. Queen Sun Ryser( Ryan Inglis) held on to complete the triple. The 4-year-old gelding is also owned and trained by Silva himself.
