Earl Bean, 87, dies

Columbus, OH — Earl R. Bean, 87, died peacefully May 25, 2024, at Saratoga Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family.

Born on Nov. 15, 1936, in Hanover, N.H., he was the son of the late Richard and Beatrice (Huntington).

Mr. Bean proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1955-’57.

He enjoyed a long and successful career as a Standardbred trainer at Saratoga, where he became a well-known and respected figure in the racing community. A passionate outdoorsman, he loved golfing, betting on horses, and participating in harness racing as an owner, trainer, and driver since 1964. His unwavering dedication to the sport earned him induction into the Saratoga Hall of Fame in 2010.

Mr. Bean was also an enthusiastic Red Sox fan and cherished the time spent with his family pet, Winston.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Nancy; son, Timothy Earl (Deborah Crawford); daughters, Karen Forbes, Linda Rose, and Julie (Kevin) Brasser; brothers, Caroll and John (Pam); sisters, Shirley Stever and Eva Lou Hodge; grandchildren, Shannon (Eric) Van Hall, Nicole Forbes (Jose Corporan), Lauren (Matthew) Fredmonski, Kellie, Micayla (Dylan) LaFave, Lindsey Brasser (Jordan Nolan), and Keri Pehl; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Merton; sister, Charlotte Bishop; and son-in-law, Jeffrey Forbes.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday (June 4), from 12-1:45 p.m. at Compassionate Funeral Care, Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
