Tarrific, Peace Talks nab NYSS wins at Tioga
June 2, 2024,Nichols, NY — Driver Jason Bartlett and trainer Chris Ryder swept both divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for 3-year-old pacing fillies at Tioga Downs on Sunday (June 2).
Tarrific ($2.50) won the $58,100 first division.
Bronx Barista (Mark MacDonald) went to the front and led to the quarter in :27.3. She used a:29.4 second quarter to be first to the half in :57.2. Tarrific made her move first-over from third going down the backstretch as she battled for the lead. Bronx Barista had a slight lead to three-quarters in 1:24.1.
The two fillies continued to battle down the stretch. Tarrific broke free in deep stretch and won in 1:51.3. Hunting Hula (Pat LaChance) came up to finish second. Bronx Barista had to settle for third.
Tarrific is a filly by Huntsville. She is owned by Margeret Dey and Let It Ride Stables while trained by Chris Ryder. It was her first career win.
Peace Talks ($23.20) went gate-to-wire to take the $59,200 second division.
Peace Talks went straight to the front and led to the quarter in :26.3. She went :29.1 in the second quarter and was first to the half in :55.4. Leanne’s Choice (Marcus Miller) was the first to make a move first-over down the backstretch but she stalled as Peace Talks was first to three-quarters in 1:23.1.
As they made the turn for home Peace Talks was in control but had to brace for a late charge by second place finisher Ponynamedwildfire (Mark MacDonald). Peace Talks held firm to win in a lifetime best of 1:50.4. Camerican (Jordan Stratton) finished third.
Peace Talks is a filly by American Ideal. She is owned by Henderson Farms, FAC Racing Stable, J Bell, and R Mondillo while trained by Ryder. Her first win this season. She now has three career victories
