New rules for using the whip in races in Europe

Members of the European Trotting Association (UET) have unanimously decided to adopt a new philosophy for the use of the whip in trotting races.

No later than April 1, 2025, all member countries must have adopted the new regulations, which can be summed up as:

– the whip, which remains a safety element for the jockey or driver, is not used to kick or hit a horse.
– a jockey or a driver has only the right to solicitate his horse by a wrist movement.

And from the trotting scene, here are some notes from Sweden:

The very popular San Moteur with Björn Goop is being prepped for the richest trotting race ever in Europe, the Aby World Grand Prix, with a purse for the winner of $565,000. San Moteur raced for the first time without shoes and in an American bike and handily won a race over 1-5/16th miles in 1:52.3f.

On the same card, the 4-year-old Fame and Glory (sired by Tactical Landing) raced for the second time this year and also won with Björn Goop driving in a 1-5/8th mile event in 1:55.2f, equaling the world record held by his half-brother Calgary Games. Timo Nurmos is the trainer.
