Monticello, NY — Andrew Adamczyk powered through a first-over grind with odds-on favorite Skrill to win the lone $7,500 division for the North American Amateur Drivers Association Trot at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday (July 31).
Leaving from post two, Skrill floated away third as Showme Some Muscle (McKenzie Sowers) fired to a 3-1/2-length lead through a :29.3 first quarter. Showme Some Muscle continued on the point to a :59.2 half while Skrill angled off the pegs to start narrowing on the leader.
Skrill climbed forward through three-quarters in 1:29 to cut a three-length deficit to a half-length and persisted with his pressure on Showme Some Muscle through the final turn. Showme Some Muscle eventually caved and Skrill surged to the front, holding the lead to the finish to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:59.3. Kasha’s Boy (Alan Schwartz) followed the winner’s cover for second while Psalmsfortysixfive (Scott Keppler) rallied for third and Mufasa As (Joe Faraldo) came from last for fourth.
Gary Messenger trains Skrill, a 7-year-old gelding by Credit Winner, for owner Kenneth Weckstein. He paid $2.50 to win.
NAADA action continues at Monticello Raceway next Wednesday (Aug. 7) for the last leg of the club’s Summer Series before the final. First-race post time at Monticello is 12:20 p.m. (EDT).
