Woodstock, VA — Horsepeople are reminded that applications for the upcoming fall harness racing season at Virginia’s Shenandoah Downs are available online and due to the racing office by this coming Monday (Aug. 5).
A seven-week meet will run from Sept. 14 to Oct. 27 with racing scheduled every Saturday and Sunday at 1:05 p.m. A total of $750,000 in overnight purse money will be distributed over the 14-day meet. Virginia Breeders’ races for 2- and 3-year-old pacers and trotters of both sexes will be conducted during the fall campaign as well via elimination races (from Sept. 28-Oct. 20) and a closing-day championship card (Oct. 27) featuring eight divisional title matches. Horses will compete for $300,000 in the eliminations and $640,000 in the finals. Virginia Breeders’ races for older horses worth $80,000 will be contested closing day, as well.

The track is conveniently located at the Shenandoah (Va.) County Fairgrounds off Interstate 81 at Exit 283 in the scenic Shenandoah Valley, halfway between Winchester and Harrisonburg.
In addition to the fall campaign, a four-day non-wagering meet will take place at the same site from Aug. 28-31 during the Shenandoah County Fair, with post time each day at 12 noon.
