Saratoga Springs, NY — Bluffinner sprang a 24-1 upset in Thursday’s (Aug. 8) featured $15,000 Open Trot at Saratoga Casino Hotel.
Jordan Derue, who drives, trains and co-owns the 7-year-old, flashed a bit of speed with Bluffinner to land him in third behind leader Remember Titans through a :57.2 first half over a sloppy track. Bluffinner made his move heading to the three-quarter pole, and he wasted little time in overpowering a weary Remember Titans before opening an insurmountable lead on the final turn. Discus Hanover (driven by Jimmy Devaux) slid out of the pocket to take second in the stretch, but he posed little threat to Bluffinner, who prevailed by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:56.4. Echo De Meautis FR (Brett Beckwith) finished third as the 6-5 favorite.
Bluffinner, a five-time winner this season who paid $51.50 to win, is owned by Jordan Derue and the FBP Racing Stable.
