Skowhegan , ME — Walter Case Jr. employed various strategies on his way to scoring three wins on the Monday (Aug. 12) card at the Skowhegan State Fair.

He began his day charging gate-to-wire to secure the fifth consecutive win for Massive Speed (2:04.2-NB) in a $16,161 split of Maine Sire Stakes action before applying a bit more finesse to his tactics to close out the program with a pair of off the pace winners.
Both Pickmepickme (1:57.3-$6.20) and Skyway Ballet (1:59.2-$15.00) enjoyed similar journeys on Monday, settling mid-pack off the gate before enjoying a second-over draft just prior to entering the final turn, and then sling-shotting off that final bend to secure handy wins at the wire.
“Three wide off that last turn seemed the place to be today,” Case remarked. “The footing was good out there and the horses were able to carry their momentum into the stretch.”
Kevin Switzer Jr. utilized the ‘Skowhegan Slingshot’ for one of his three wins too as Twin B High Tech (1:58.4-$6.40) came flying three-wide off that final turn to nab his seventh career victory.
Switzer’s other two scores came in conventional gate-to-wire fashion as Dynamical Tad (2:02.1-$8.60) and Second Bruiser (1:57.3-$3.80) soared coast-to-coast for the top rated driver.
“Kevin is driving extremely well right now,” Case remarked about his fellow teamster. “He’s in a zone right now where just about every move he makes is the right one. It’s fun watching guys drive when they’re zeroed in like that.”
Switzer currently leads all drivers after two days of racing at Skowhegan with seven winning trips. Case is tied with Aaron Hall in the runner-up spot with three wins apiece.
Skowhegan State Fair will present racing under the lights for the next three sessions with live harness racing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (Aug. 13-15) with post time scheduled for 7 p.m. (EDT).
Skowhegan’s simulcast will be available for viewing and wagering on most national ADWs and brick and mortar locations through an agreement with Great Pine Racing.
