Wilkes-Barre, PA — Yogi Sheridan notched another victory under his cap in the American Harness Drivers Club Summer Trotting Series when winning the lone $10,000 dash at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania on Sunday night (Aug. 18).
Sent off as the 8-5 favorite, Sheridan moved forward with Jive Ninety Five to a :27.4 first quarter and looped to the lead before a :57 half. Lionhead (Frank Tsipouras) tracked his swooping move but soon found himself parked heading for the backside.
Jive Ninety Five gathered speed up the backstretch, clicked past three-quarters in 1:25.4 and edged away from his peers down the lane to stop the clock in 1:56.2. Lionhead took second, beaten 3-1/2 lengths, with pocket-sitter Lady’s Image (Neil Glasser) finishing third.
Peter Pellegrino owns and trains Jive Ninety Five, a 7-year-old gelding by Andover Hall. He paid $5.20 to win.
AHDC action continues at Pocono next Sunday (Aug. 25) for another leg of the club’s Summer Trotting Series. First-race post time at Pocono is 6 p.m. (EDT).
