Middletown, NY – If you have not yet made plans to attend the upcoming Goshen Yearling Sale on Monday (Sept. 9), this might be a good time to pencil it in as it will be your first opportunity to purchase high quality, New York-bred yearlings that will be eligible to participate in the substantial purse increases for next year that were just announced by the Agriculture and New York State Horse Breeding Development fund.

Starting in 2025, the New York Sire Stake finals will increase from $225,000 to $300,000, the Excelsior finals will go from $55,000 to $100,000 and the County Fair finals will go from $15,000 to $25,000.
The Fund has also announced they will introduce an entirely new race for 2-year-olds in 2025 with a total value of $1 million (four divisions by sex and gait worth $250,000 each).
From the 84 horses being offered in this year’s Goshen Yearling Sale, 62 are New York-bred, making this sale a must for anyone planning on racing in the NYSS next year. All the top New York sires have offspring in the sale including 13 by Huntsville, eight by Courtly Choice, four by American Ideal, four by Devious Man and one by Chapter Seven.
With the new enhanced purse structure in place for next year, the prices on New York-breds are sure to climb substantially this fall and the Goshen yearling Sale is the perfect opportunity to get in on the action early.
The 2024 Goshen Yearling Sale will be held at noon on Monday (Sept. 9) at the Mark Ford Training Center in Middletown, NY, and the site is currently undergoing the final touches to help make sure this year’s buying and selling experience is the best it can be. The facility is expecting a sizable crowd with the number of excellent New York-bred prospects for sale that day.
