Columbus, OH — Refined and High Flyin’ Filly set new lifetime marks in the last Open Trot and Fillies and Mares Open Pace, respectively, of the 2024 Eldorado Scioto Downs racing season on Friday (Sept. 13).
Refined won her fifth Open of the season when she took the $25,000 event in 1:51.2. The opening quarter was hotly contested in :26.4 when Oh Look Magic (Chris Page) parked Adamsville Road (Kayne Kauffman) through most of the first turn. Adamsville Road eventually dropped in the pocket while Refined (Dan Noble) pulled from third and easily made the front before going under the wire for the first time. Refined led through fractions of :55.1 and 1:23.1 before winning by three lengths over Oh Look Magic; Adamsville Road was third.

Refined is trained by Virgil Morgan Jr. for Joyce McClelland and Larry Wills. The 8-year-old daughter of Uncle Peter now has $1.18 million in lifetime earnings.
High Flyin’ Filly took the $26,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace in 1:49.3, which bested her previous lifetime mark by over a second. Page settled the Ron Burke trainee fourth from post seven while My Red Sea (Eric Goodell) set fractions of :26.1 and :55. By the 1:22.3 third quarter, High Flyin’ Filly was first-up and just a length back. The duo battled through the wire with High Flyin’ Filly getting up to win by a half length over My Red Sea. Alexa Skye (Noble) took advantage of the pocket trip and was third.
High Flyin’ Filly, another Ohio-sired mare, is by Domethatagain and owned by Burke Racing and Weaver Bruscemi. She now has $265,617 earned in 65 lifetime starts with 21 wins.
The closing-night program, on Saturday (Sept. 14), will have 17 races. First post is 5:45 p.m. More information about racing at Scioto can be found on the Eldorado Scioto Downs website.
