Northfield OH — Southwind Amazon is a name that has been known around Northfield Park for many years. No horse has won more races over the Ohio half-mile track than the 14-year-old son of Camluck.
In fact, there is only one horse in the modern era of the sport that has been more victorious than him. Niffit currently stands alone as the winningest horse in Standardbred history with 137 wins.
On Jan. 1 (racehorses all use the same birthday), Southwind Amazon turned 14 with 130 career wins. Now he’ll be making his 25th start of the season on Sunday night (Sept. 29) for trainer Paul Holzman and owner Ameer Najor, just one win away from tying the record. He is in race 13 from post number three and will be driven by Justin Irvine who was only eight years old when Southwind Amazon was born.
