Washington, PA – Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo:
THREE DAY RACING SCHEDULE
The Meadows is now into its fall racing schedule, with 3 days of racing per week. This week we are racing Wednesday, Thursday at Friday afternoons at 12:45 p.m.
9-FOR-9
Distant Drums, a 5-year-old son of Trixton that did not race at all in 2023, returned from a two-month layoff this past Wednesday (Oct. 16) and kept his winning streak intact. Driven by Mike Wilder for trainer Sarah Andrews and owner Matthew Miller, Distant Drums won in 1:54.2. He is now 9-for-9 this season.
BARGAIN PURCHASE ROLLS ON
The first horse in the program on Thursday (Oct. 24) – race one, post one – is Always Bet On Me, who has accomplished quite a bit despite his more humble beginnings. In the fall of 2022, he was one of the lowest-priced horses in the Standardbred Horse Sale in Harrisburg, bringing just $3,000. The son of Betting Line was purchased by trainer Randy Neal and his son, Eric, who drives. Always Bet On Me has now won 11 of 31 career starts, with more than $67,000 in earnings. He has a lifetime mark of 1:54 but paced in 1:52.2 in a second place finish last month at The Meadows.
