Harrisburg, PA — Trotting fillies Upgrade and Ellie Hanover each sold for $300,000 to share top honors for the second session of the 86th annual Standardbred Horse Sale, held Tuesday (Nov. 5) at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Complex.
Upgrade, a daughter of Green Manalishi S-Uptown Classic, was purchased by Bax Stables as agent. Her family includes Grand Circuit winner Classical Annie as well as Flawless Lindy, the dam of millionaire Southwind Frank. She was consigned by Concord Stud Farm and bred by Ernie Lambright. The filly is Ontario eligible.
Ellie Hanover was purchased by Åke Svanstedt. The daughter of Captain Corey-Expect A Lot is a half-sister to 2-year-old colt Elan Hanover, a winner on the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes circuit who finished second in the series championship. The family also includes 2012 Kentucky Futurity winner My MVP and two-time O’Brien Award winner Caprice Hill. Consigned and bred by Hanover Shoe Farms, she is Pennsylvania eligible.
Third on the best-sellers list was trotting colt Tavern Onthe Green, a son of Green Manalishi S-Flos Conch Shack who was purchased for $225,000 by Determination. He is from the family of multiple Dan Patch and O’Brien Award winner Cameron Hall. He was consigned and bred by Concord Stud Farm and is Ontario, Kentucky, and New Jersey Standardbred Development Fund eligible.
Determination purchased the session’s highest-priced pacer, colt Studio Boss, for $200,000. He is a son of Bettor’s Delight-Studio One out of the family of Hall of Fame broodmare Grand Lady. The colt was consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing for breeder Mark Mullen and Fair Winds Farm. He is Ontario and New Jersey Standardbred Development Fund eligible.
Also selling for $200,000 was trotting filly Kountry Sill, a daughter of Chapter Seven-Phaetosive who was purchased by Blake MacIntosh as agent. She was consigned by Anvil and Lace Farm and bred by Ola Yoder. She is New York and Kentucky eligible.
Through this year’s two sessions, the sale has grossed $31.5 million for 529 yearlings, an average of $59,605. Last year, the gross through two days was $29.9 million for 497 horses, an average of $60,187.
The yearling portion of the Standardbred Horse Sale concludes Wednesday (Nov. 6) with hip numbers 553-910 selling. The auction begins at 10 a.m. (EST). The two-day mixed sale gets underway Thursday (Nov. 7) and continues Friday (Nov. 8); both sessions begin at 11 a.m. (EST).
