Washington, PA — Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.
CARETAKERS TO BE CELEBRATED WEDNESDAY
This Wednesday (Nov. 20), the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Association will celebrate Caretakers Day 2024 at tracks across the Commonwealth. The Meadows is proud to honor the many caretakers that make up our backstretch barn area, a crucial position allowing trainers to further give their horses the special care they deserve. As part of the festivities, the PHRA will be handing out free gear, raffles, and providing free lunches to all grooms in the paddock on Wednesday. The PHRA has also posted spotlight videos on two Meadows caretakers, Meadow Twaddle and Lou Ann Prosser, highlighting the work and passion that goes into caring for our beloved four-legged athletes. The videos can be viewed on their YouTube page.
PALONE, WRENN CONTINUE STATISTICAL DOMINANCE
As the 2024 season continues to wind down, the driver standings favor Dave Palone and Ronnie Wrenn Jr., as they have all year. Palone, who collected win No. 21,000 two weeks ago, is now up to 343 locally on the season, while Wrenn has impressed with 309 wins locally in 256 less starts. Aaron Merriman, who leads the nation in total wins this year with 747, is in third with 229 Meadows victories this year. There are just 16 race days remaining this season.
FALL SCHEDULE IN FULL EFFECT
The Meadows will stick to its regular Fall schedule this week, with action Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 12:45 p.m. There will be 13 races each afternoon.
