Columbus, OH — Nathan F. Bower, 73, died Nov. 27, 2024, in College Park, Fla., due to heart complications.
Born in Aiken, S.C., Mr. Bower moved with his family to central Florida a few years later.
He was an avid athlete from an early age, serving as co-captain of his Edgewater High School varsity basketball team and also playing tennis and swimming most of his life. He graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in international affairs.
Like his father and both of his grandfathers, he was a horseman, working with Standardbred racehorses in his father’s stable during high school and college summers, including caring for several Hambletonian contenders. After college, he served as a racing official at Hollywood Park, Los Alamitos and Cal Expo.
Mr. Bower is survived by his sister, Nancy Bowling; brother-in-law, Dan Bowling; and many close friends, cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Roberta Bower.
A celebration of life will be held in Florida in February 2025.
Memorial contributions may be made to Orange Audubon Society or the Standardbred Retirement Foundation.
