Columbus, OH — The third season of the Standardbred Incentive Program (SIP) closed on Nov. 30, 2024, with submissions permitted through Dec. 31, 2024, which allowed extra time for participants to get their placings and trail miles entered.
Summary data has been collected and while the number of participants is slightly down over the 2023 show season, the USTA is optimistic for the future of the program.

“We knew it would take a couple years to get the word out and a foundation to be built for initiatives like SIP, as it often takes longer than expected to get underway. Despite the levelling, the organization stands committed,” said TC Lane, the USTA’s chief operating officer. “Last year we added additional staff to the Outreach department, which will assist in the oversight of the program as spring season rolls around. By dedicating resources, the industry can also expect increased communication and promotion of the program.”
Over 60 horses from over 50 horsemen and women submitted a show placing or a trail mile for the 2024 show season. Divisional winners will be announced in the coming weeks. For those that show and participate in endurance riding, ribbons and award boxes will be sent out to divisional and sub-divisional champions and reserve champions. Trail miles that have been logged for the past three seasons will start being recognized with achievement patches and other prizes. Participant medals will be sent out to all SIP participants from the 2024 season.

Since 1996, the Standardbred Equine Program has worked with owners of off-the-track Standardbreds to educate the public about the many disciplines that Standardbreds excel at once they are retired from racing. For more information about the SEP at the USTA, visit LifeAfterRacing.ustrotting.com.
