Saratoga Springs, NY — Brett Beckwith wrapped up a sweep of this week’s Opens at Saratoga Casino Hotel with a 1:54.3 victory with Arizona in Tuesday’s (March 4) $15,000 Fillies and Mares Open, one of seven driving wins on the day for the track’s top reinsman.
Assigned the outside post seven but also sent off as the 1-5 favorite, the daughter of Up The Credit marched to the early lead and rattled off early fractions of :28 and :57.3 before opening up an insurmountable lead up the backstretch and prevailing by a measured length. Pocket sitter Waitforever N (driven by Aaron Byron) was second; long shot Quarrel (Jay Randall) rallied for third.
Arizona, who is owned by Wendy Timpano, also provided trainer Melissa Beckwith one of five wins on the card.
