Monticello, NY — Leading driver Mike Merton owned the Wednesday (April 9) card at Monticello Raceway, taking four races, one of which was the Open Trot.

In the $8,500 Open Trot with a full field of eight, Communion Money (Colin Kelly) made a miscue as the gate was leaving entering the first turn, while the normally sure footed Promise For Life also made a break and took himself out of contention.
Doo Wop Kid started from post position four and hustled to the front, where he would remain throughout the mile, stopping the timer in 1:58 ($3.70) and prevailing by 1-1/2 lengths over Ackles Hanover (Greg Merton) and the fast closing Emma Town Bud (Pierre Bovay). Doo Wop Kid was driven by Mike Merton for trainer Alan Schwartz.
Victoria Stratton scored in a wire-to-wire win with Draco S from the rail in 1:59.4 ($2.70) for his second seasonal win.
Bruce Aldrich Jr. ended the day with a driving double. His Home’n Dry nabbed his fifth win on the year and was reclaimed by Ralph Silvestri.
Ken Koch enjoyed a training double. His Vinovio extended his winning streak to four with regular driver Mike Merton in 1:58.2 ($3.00).
