Stefan Hultman, one of the most successful Swedish trainers of this century, died April 12, 2025, at the age of 61.
Had illness not forced him to step back a decade ago, he would likely still have been a dominant force in European harness racing.
Mr. Hultman was the man behind top horses such as Maharajah and From Above. His victories include the Prix d’Amérique, Elitloppet, Grand Prix de l’UET, two Swedish Trotting Derby titles, and multiple wins in the Swedish Breeders Crown, among others.
When illness forced him to close his stable, he became a highly popular commentator on Swedish trotting TV, ATG Live.
Mr. Hultman trained 1,102 winners, was named Trainer of the Year in Sweden twice, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017.
