Hamburg, NY — Mary Kat ($8.80) was the “cat’s meow” in Buffalo Raceway’s $11,000 pace for fillies and mares on Wednesday afternoon (May 7) as she beat American Jazz by 2-1/2 lengths in a season’s best of 1:55.4 over a fast track.
Mary Kat (Joseph Chindano Jr.) was sandwiched between American Jazz and Bolt Of Beauty in a three-mare tussle in the early going. The trio sorted themselves out finally just before Mary Kat hit the opening panel in :28. From there, Mary Kat showed the way through fractions of :57.1 and 1:27 as American Jazz (Kevin Cummings) drafted in the pocket while Bolt Of Beauty stayed hung out to dry before dropping out of contention.
In the stretch, Mary Kat put on the afterburners and extended her lead and wound up taking a comfortable 2-1/2-length score over American Jazz while the favored Summer Slash (Ray Fisher Jr.) rallied for the show spot.

It was the sixth win in 16 appearances for the 8-year-old Mary Kat (Bettor’s Delight-Nannywithafanny), who is trained by Taylor Fritz and owned by Lucky Label Stables. The victory moved her seasonal bankroll to $36,520 and to $332,649 in her career.
David McNeight III finished the program with three victories while Denny Bucceri and Jim Morrill Jr. had doubles. Lester Mullet had a pair of training wins.
Racing will resume on Friday afternoon (May 9) at 2:30 p.m. with an 11-race program set. For more information, including the latest news, upcoming promotions, entries, results and race replays, go to www.buffaloraceway.com.
