Hamburg, NY — The participants in Buffalo Raceway’s $16,000 Open Trot on Friday (June 13) afternoon ‘couldn’t deal’ with Dealin With Dewey as he upended Makes Me Charlie by four lengths in a snappy 1:56.2 over the fast track.

Sent off as the heavy favorite from the seven post, Dealin With Dewey ($3.40) managed to gain the lead after a brief tussle with El Toro Loco. Once settling on the lead, driver Jim Morrill Jr. cruised through fractions of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:27.3 as El Toro Loco stalked from the pocket.
Heading around the final turn, Dealin With Dewey enjoyed a 2-1/2 length lead and saw that extended as Mercutio broke stride on his first over journey. That bobble erased the hopes anyone had as Dealin With Dewey cruised home for the victory. Makes Me Charlie (James McNeight Jr.) picked up the pieces for second while Wolinak (John Cummings Jr.) was third.
Owned and trained by Sara Baillargeon, Dealin With Dewey (Wheelin N Dealin-Rockin With Dewey) is a 7-year-old gelding that has won five times in 14 outings. The victory moved his 2025 earnings to $39,876 and to $287,858 lifetime.
Drew Monti led the way in the sulky on the afternoon card with four wins with Morrill Jr. having three and Joseph Chindano Jr. and Kevin Cummings getting two each.
Racing will resume on Saturday (June 14) afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with a 13-race card scheduled.
