Anderson, IN — The second leg of Indiana Sire Stakes for three-year-old pacing colts delivered the same results as the first, with Deal The Odds and Chandler Bing each claiming victory on Friday (June 13) at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
Deal The Odds was sent away from the rail as the 3-5 favorite in the $49,000 first division with Joey Putnam in the bike. Putnam floated away from the gate in fourth while Book The Fight (Marvin Luna) quickly assumed command of the field of seven through an opening quarter of :27.3. Book The Fight continued to lead unchallenged to the half in :56.4, but began to spin his wheels on the far turn under Luna urging when the pace quickened, allowing Avanti (John De Long) to move around him to the lead at three-quarters in 1:24,4 and a revved-up Deal The Odds now at his wheel in second.
Avanti proved to be game on the lead in the stretch before Deal The Odds wore him down with a relentless :26.3 final quarter to power clear by 1-1/2 lengths on the line in 1:51.3. Book The Fight rallied once more following his final turn struggles to snag third from Rawtn Tale (Mike Oosting).
Trained by Joe Putnam for owners J P Racing, Michael Lee and Crazy Parrot Farm, Deal The Odds has two wins and a second through three outings in 2025. Bred by Silver Linden Farms, the colt by Odds On Equuleus out of the He’s Watching mare, Sono Bello, is a five-time winner for his career with lifetime earnings of $125,420.
While being sent off as the 3-1 second choice in the $49,500 division, the reigning Sire Stakes champion Chandler Bing asserted himself in a career best with regular pilot Jay Cross aboard.
Leaving from post six in the scratched down field of seven, Chandler Bing secured a seat in fourth early while 12-1 shot Special Pete (LeWayne Miller) grabbed the early lead through a quarter of :27.1. Action picked up on the backstretch, with Cross giving his marching orders before being sent three-deep on the way to the lead around both Special Pete and The Family Man (Marcus Miller) to the half in :56.1. Chander Bing continued to roll on the final turn, carrying a length-and-a-half lead to three-quarters in 1:23.1 over The Family Man.
Chandler Bing remained solid in the stretch, steamrolling home in :26.4 to cruise by 1-1/4 lengths over The Family Man in 1:50. Special Pete held sway for third, there was a dead-heat for fourth between Aye Aye Capt Russ (Marvin Luna) and Rockin Mudslinger (Jordan Ross).
Trained and co-owned by Alvin Miller along with Twila Harts, Chandler Bing has won two of four to start his sophomore campaign. The Glen Yoder bred gelded son of Tellitlikeitis-Northern Beauty is now seven for 13 lifetime with $270,165 in career earnings.
Driver Kyle Wilfong remained red-hot on the week, scoring five driving victories on the night to lead all drivers.
Racing will conclude for the week at Harrah’s Hoosier Park on Saturday, with a 14-race card set to get underway at 6:15 p.m. The Late Hoosier High 5 went unsolved on Friday night’s card, resulting in a carryover of $9,386 into the Early Hoosier High 5 on Saturday in race 7. The Late Hoosier High 5 (race 14) is guaranteed at $7,500 as part of the USTA’s Strategic Wagering Program.
