Columbus, OH – Richard Ansel Mathurin Sr., 88, most recently of San Diego, Calif., passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, at Kearny Mesa Convalescent and Nursing Home.

Born in Brunswick, Maine, on August 23, 1936, Dick graduated from Brunswick High School. He was a resident of Falmouth, Maine for many years. He spent over 40 years as a respected mergers and acquisitions advisor who was a co-founder of Mathurin And Kaplan and later founded Richard A. Mathurin & Associates. He was known for his dedication to clients and his business acumen.
Dick loved rooting for his favorite Boston sports teams, tending his garden and his passion for Standardbred racehorses. He was a longtime member of the USTA. In the early 1970s, he was farm manager at Saratoga Standardbred Farm and then continued his passion through his racing stable, RAM Racing Stables, that he owned with his son, Rich. Some notable horses owned by the stable included New Jersey Sire Stakes champion Bon Voyage, Maine Sire Stakes champion Baton, fast class pacing mare Annie McGuire N, and fast class trotter Mister Rhubarb.
Dick is survived by his children, Richard Mathurin Jr. and Margaret Demetros, and his two grandchildren, Madison and Emma.
Dick will be remembered for his outgoing personality and his presence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Standardbred Retirement Foundation.
