Waterdown, ON – Rick Merryman of Freelton, passed away unexpectedly on June 23rd, 2025 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton. Beloved son to Judy (Gord) and dear brother to Cathy (Kevin), Mike, Dave, Ray, and Laura. Rick will be missed by Paige, Calvin, Hannah, Brett, as well as many other nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
An avid animal lover, Rick dedicated much of his life to his work as a groom for well-known trainers including Ken Hofacker, Harold Stead, and Mark Ford. Among his favorite horses were Blue Buckaroo, Alastor Hanover, and Whosurboy. Rick could often be seen cruising in his beloved Ford Mustangs sporting his favorite color, orange. He enjoyed horse racing, Nascar, golf, sunbathing, and travelling south to visit his close companion Rosa and her family.

Cremation has taken place. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 7-9 p.m. at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown.
