Monticello, NY – On Monday (July 14), the New York Sire Stakes return to the Mighty M with 3-year-old trotting fillies taking the stage with two divisions of Sire Stakes and two splits of the Excelsior.
The Sire Stakes purses are worth $56,900 and $58,000 to along with two $20,000 Excelsior dashes.
The reigning queen of her division is My Debt Collector. A winner last year on Aug. 19 in Sire Stakes competition at Monticello, she is slated to go in race 10.
She is the leading point earner in her class and has drawn post position two with regular pilot Tyler Buter in the bike.
In nine starts this year, she has finished in the top three every start with five wins three seconds and a third, and already has won four Sire Stake’s events and hit the board in three Stakes events.
The offspring of Chapter Seven – Magic Presto is trained by Nifty Norman for owners David McDuffee, Melvin Hartman and Little E LLC and has lifetime earnings of $432,083.
Her main competition may come from Pink Bomb who will be driven by Jason Bartlett. The John Butenschoen trainee has won four of seven starts this year, including a Sire Stakes at Saratoga on May 18, and has compiled $121,215 in earnings. She is owned by Crawford Farms and Heather Marshall.
In the other Sire Stakes dash (race two), Royal Mission (Brett Beckwith), a winner of last year’s $225,000 Night of Champions, has drawn post four in the five-horse field in her division. She is trained by Marcus Melander for longtime Standardbred patron Jeff Snyder.
Royal Mission won the NYSS on May 26 at Vernon Downs in 1:54, a new lifetime mark, and has earned $70,794 this year with one win in her five starts.
The ultra-consistent Inn Of The Stars has leading Sire Stakes driver Tyler Buter handling the driving assignment. The well-bred Chapter Seven – Met’s Inn filly scored in a Sire Stake race in 1:58 at Buffalo and finished second in an Excelsior contest last start at Goshen.
Chapvious (Jason Bartlett) earned her lifetime mark of 1:56.3 in overnight competition in her last start at Vernon Downs. The Devious Man sophomore is trained by George Ducharme for Purple Haze Stables LLC.
There are two local connections in the second heat of Excelsior Stakes (race eight). Sister Lo (Kyle Dibenedetto) for Jim Doherty Jr is a Met’s Hall filly who won in this class in her last outing at Buffalo in 1:59.2 and KJ Title (Gregory Merton) who is trained by Gary Messenger.
