Lexington, KY — On a sweltering evening in the Bluegrass, the Kentucky Proud Series finals produced some sizzling results with a mix of favorites and longshots hitting the finish line first on Sunday (July 20).
The eight $50,000 finals for freshmen and sophomores of both gaits and genders showcased the finest performers on the Kentucky fair circuit this season.
Keep On Gliding, Deuce Pop visit the winner’s circle in freshman trotting events
Keep On Gliding (Geremy Bobbitt) soared in the stretch to spring the upset over favorite Giggity Goo (Marvin Luna) in 1:56.4 in the final for 2-year-old trotting fillies. Your Best Day Ever (Joey Putnam) rounded out the trifecta.
The daughter of You Know You Do-Keep On Loving You is trained by Jamaica Patton and owned by Gary Achenbach.
Keep On Gliding paid $18.10 to win.
Her record now stands at 7-2-5-0 and she has earned $41,500 in purse money.
The public’s second selection in the final for 2-year-old male trotters, Deuce Pop (Todd McCarthy), held off favored August Salazar (Bobbitt) in 1:56.1. Magical Six Pack (Andy Shetler) was third.
The son of Tactical Landing-Atlantic Crest is trained by Randal Jerrell. Deuce Pop is owned by his trainer, Atlantic Trot Inc. and Steve Stewart.
The colt’s record is 7-3-3-0 and he has placed $42,250 in the bank.
Deuce Pop paid $5.56 to win.
Complete Stranger, Prince Willie score in 2-year-old pace finals
Complete Stranger (Atlee Bender) scored a workmanlike victory in 1:53.3 over Queen Of Tells (Andy Miller) in the final for freshmen pacing fillies. Lady Allure (Carson Conrad) followed the top two home.
The daughter of Tall Dark Stranger-Annies Legacy is conditioned by Erv Miller and owned by Douglas Overhiser, Louis Willinger, D&M Trading II LLC and John Schwarz Jr.
Complete Stranger improved her record to 6-4-2-0 and she has earned $45,625.
Prince Willie (Putnam) threw down a last quarter in :26.3 to defeat Don’t Shut Me Down (Kyle Wilfong) in 1:51.3. Fletchers Field (Bobbitt) completed the top three spots.
The altered son of Lazarus N-Princess Layla is trained by Roger Cullipher and owned by Ronald Mersky.
Prince Willie improved his record to 5-4-0-0 and has amassed $42,100 in his brief career.
He paid $4.94 to win as the second choice.
Whiskey Wow, Six Questions soar in sophomore trotting finals
Favored Whiskey Wow (Pat Curtin) overcame the 10-hole and staved off the late advance of Louise’s Legacy (Bender) in 1:52.2 in the final for 3-year-old male trotters. Boots N Beer (Putnam) nabbed the show spot.
The son of Crazy Wow-Whimzical Britt is trained and owned by Burlin Brower.
Whiskey Wow’s career record is 10-6-1-2, and he has amassed $62,610 in purse money.
The favorite paid $5.06 at the windows and is on a three-race win streak.
Six Questions (Mike Simons) pulled off the biggest upset of the evening at odds of 89-1 with a victory over Chosen Prayer (Matt Krueger) in 1:55.1 in the final for 3-year-old trotting fillies. Come And Gait It (Peter Wrenn) completed the trifecta, which for a $1 was $2,246.14 as none of the top three were under 23-1.
A daughter of Six Pack-To The Question, Six Questions broke her maiden with her triumph in nine trips to the post. Her lifetime record is now 18-1-3-4 and she has earned $47,530.
The filly is trained by her driver and is owned by Simons, Dona McDonald and AP Racing.
She paid $180.24 to win.
Perfect World, Boomerang take sophomore pacing finals
Perfect World (Cordarius Stewart) shocked the world at odds of 74-1 to defeat Flossy Hill (Tyler Sheehan) by a nose in 1:51.1 in the final for 3-year-old pacing fillies. Favorite Princess Arch (Bender) came home third.
By Captain Crunch and out of Gentlemens Delight, the filly is trained by Martin Woodard and is owned by Elizabeth Roedl and Jacob Roedl.
Perfect World’s career resume is now 24-6-3-5, and she has banked $69,765.
The filly paid $151.14 to her supporters.
Boomerang (McCarthy) won the final for sophomore male pacers in 1:49.4. Capt Karma (Curtin) was third-placed-second and Doc’s Buddy (Jerrell) was fourth-placed-third after runner-up Captain Arturovico was demoted to seventh.
A son of Downbytheseaside out of Amherst, Boomerang is trained by Tony Dinges and is owned by Marvin Rounick.
The gelding now possesses a career resume of 22-7-3-6 and has collected $113,411.
He provided his backers with $8.02 at the windows. The final time shaved nearly four seconds off his previous mark.
