South Lyon, MI – Phillip C. Peavyhouse, known affectionately as Phil to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, in South Lyon,at the age of 86. He was born on January 2, 1939, in Jamestown, Tennessee.
He graduated from South Lyon High School in 1957, where he developed his lifelong love of sports and competition.
Phil, a lover of horses, entered the world of harness racing. Breeding and training his own standardbred horses, he became an outstanding success. His mare, Duchess Faye, was a world champion and represented the United States in Europe in 1983. He was always a hard worker and liked to say: “50% I can out work, the rest I’ll have to beat.” He was inducted into Michigan Harness Racing Hall of Fame for his many accomplishments.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of nature. Even in hunting it was the performance of the dogs that interested him. Phil’s appreciation for God’s creation and creatures was evident to all who knew him.
Phil was an active member of Crossroads Community Church. His commitment to his faith was a positive influence on many. People always enjoyed his humorous down to earth, fun-loving spirit.
Phil is survived by his loving wife, Saundra, sons, Michael (Kathy) Peavyhouse and Rob Stevens, grandchildren, Phillip Stevens, Katie Peavyhouse, and Kelsey Peavyhouse. He is also survived by his siblings, Jan Maxim, Rita Paulich, and Steve (Janet) Peavyhouse. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Justine Peavyhouse, and his brother, Russell.

Visitation will be held on Friday (Aug. 8) from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home, 122 West Lake Street, South Lyon, MI.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday (Aug. 9), 11:00 a.m. with final visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., Crossroads Community Church, 28900 Pontiac Trail, South Lyon, MI.
