Fowlerville, MI — Trainer-driver LeWayne Miller captured three of the eight Great Lake Stakes events on the Monday (July 21) twilight card at the Fowlerville Family Fair, highlighted by a 1:58.2 track-record performance from Westwinds Pegasus in the $25,500 3-year-old filly trot.
Westwinds Pegasus, a daughter of Celebrity Pegasus-Keep The Cash owned by Ryan Raber, L+N Racing, Platinum Stables and Dynamic Stables, knocked 3-3/5 seconds off the previous divisional standard of 2:02 with a front-end score over 2024 divisional champion Libbys Lucky Lady and capped Miller’s hat trick. After protecting pole position to lead through a :30.1 first quarter, she rated middle splits of 1:00.1 and 1:30.1 before using a :28.1 sprint home to defeat Libbys Lucky Lady (driven by Chris Page) by 7-1/2 lengths and record the sixth win of her career from eight starts.
Miller also won the $25,400 2-year-old filly trot with Westwinds Yahtzee, a full sister to Westwinds Pegasus. After getting away third behind Weezabouttofindout (David Lake), Miller angled Westwinds Yahtzee first-over with a lap to go, advanced to engage Weezabouttofindout on the far turn, and drew clear steadily to win by 3-3/4 lengths in 2:01.1 for owner-breeder Samuel Eicher.
In the $25,500 2-year-old filly pace, Miller pushed forward aggressively with Lady Victorious to seize the lead from Doon (Don Harmon) after a :29.4 first quarter and then proceeded to rate middle fractions of 1:00.3 and 1:30.2 before drawing 6-1/4 lengths clear of a late-rallying Legacy Of A Hardt (Kody Massey) to win in 1:59.2 for owner Rockylanes.
Believeincaptain drills rookie track record
The undefeated Believeincaptain added another major accomplishment to his young résumé when he tore through rapid splits en route to a 1:57.2 track record mile in the $25,800 2-year-old male pace. With Kody Massey at the lines, the Captainvictorious-Believeincarrie colt maintained clearance over pocket rival Captain Butch (Page) through first-lap splits of :29.1 and :58 before throwing down a :28.3 third sectional to leave his six rivals well detached. Despite slowing down through a :30.4 final quarter, Believeincaptain defeated runner-up Eleanor’s Knight (Miller) by a widening 15 lengths to score his fourth win in as many career starts for trainer Allen Sisco, who shares ownership with Oldford Racing.
Completing the octet of Great Lake Stakes winners were:
• 2-year-old trotting gelding Be Relentless (driver Chris Page, trainer Tim Roach), who won in 2:07.4;
• 3-year-old trotting gelding New Plan Stan (trainer-driver Greg Bateson), who won in 2:01.2;
• 3-year-old pacing filly Spagz One (driver Kim Pluta, trainer Brett Boyd), who won in 2:01.1; and
• 3-year-old pacing gelding Hardt Of A King (driver Brad Kramer, trainer Kelly Goodwin), who won in 1:59.3.
