Columbus, OH – Lonny L. Hale passed away early Sunday evening, July 20, 2025 at the Oneida Health Hospital surrounded by the love and devotion of his family after an extended illness at the age of 64.
Born on July 10, 1961 in Oneida, New York, a son of the late George J. and Judith Hale (Markes) and was a graduate of the Vernon Verona Sherrill Schools.
Lonny followed in his father George’s footsteps training racehorses at Vernon Downs and various harness racetracks in New York holding multiple years of leading trainer. To many he was considered an expert in troubleshooting a racehorse. He was a mentor and would always offer help to anybody in need. Some of his memorable horses were Wings Hanover, My Attorney Bernie, Humiliator and Proud American.
In his spare time Lonny enjoyed watching the Los Angeles Rams football team, college basketball; and was a movie buff with his favorite being Gladiator.
Lonny was predeceased by his father George, brother Larry, brother-in-law Johnny, grandson Nicholas and granddaughter Hannah.
Surviving is his mother Judith Markes, his two sons and daughters-in-law, Justin (Stephanie) Hale of Kirkville and Joshua (Katie) Kinney of Vernon, his grandchildren, Vincent Hale, Tyler and Alexis Kinney. His brothers and sisters Linda Hale, Leonard (Cathy) Hale, Leslie Hale, Lori Hale, Lisa (Mike) Meyers. He leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. The mother of his sons; Penny Hale of Clark Mills. His companion Misty of Rome and her children Skylar, Brennan (Stine), Paige (Bradley), Alicia (Jason), daughters Mollie and Charlotte.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, July 28, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY.
