Vernon, NY – Dewey Arnold (Ron Harp) hangs on to capture the $8,500 featured Open Trot at Vernon Downs on Friday (Aug.15).

Dewey Arnold ($8,20) was first to the quarter in :27.0. He used a :29.3 second quarter and led to the half in :56.3. Dryden Hanover (Brad Irvine) was first to make a move going first-up as they headed around the final turn. Dewey Arnold was first to three-quarters in 1:26.1.
As they reached the stretch second place finisher Forty G’s (Roman Lopez) slipped through on the inside and gave it all he had but Dewey Arnold dug in and won in 1:55.1. Kinnder Hotblood (Jimmy Whittemore) finished third.
Dewey Arnold is a 7-year-old gelding by Deweychearumnhowe. He is owned by Phillip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst. It was his sixth win this season. He now has 41 career victories.
Ron Harp and Chris Long had driving grand slams. Harp got his other wins with Communion Money, Sunfirewindrain, and Purpose Blue Chip. Long finished first with Sevechic, Crackerjack Prize, Drink On It, and Prospectors Gold.
