Seventeen Grand Circuit events took place this past weekend, starting with the Grade 1 eliminations for the William Wellwood for 2-year-old colt trotters on Friday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The Grade 1 Peaceful Way for 2-year-old trotting fillies required no elimination. Sun Stakes at Pocono Downs on Saturday afternoon consisted of fourteen events highlighted by the Grade 1 James Lynch and Delmonica Hanover, the Grade 2 Max Hempt and Earl Beal and the Grade 3 Invitationals, Sebastion K and the Always B Miki. Consolations made up the rest of the fourteen-race card and saw many stake records broken or equaled. The end of the night shifted to Charlottetown Driving Park on PEI for the Gold Cup and Saucer, a Grade 3 event for older pacers.
This week the Grand Circuit events begin in Canada on Friday at Woodbine Mohawk Park with the Grade 3 Casual Breeze for 3-year-old trotting fillies and the elimination for the Grade 1 Maple Leaf Trot. Also, on Friday at The Meadowlands the third leg of the Kindergarten Series for 2-year-old trotters and pacers will be contested. Saturday night we shift to the Buckeye State of Ohio for the Grade 3 Nadia Lobell and Moni Maker at Scioto Downs. Saturday in Canada continues with the Grade 1 finals for the William Wellwood and Peaceful Way along with the Canadian Pacing Derby eliminations. The same card also has the Grade 3 Nassagaweya and Eternal Camnation for 2-year-old pacers of each sex.
