Columbus, OH – Drivers Rick Still, Russell Foster and Trae Porter were injured in an accident near the top of the stretch Sunday evening (Aug. 24) in the second race at Ocean Downs.
Still and Porter were transported by helicopter to the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.
According to a post by Still’s brother Bill on Facebook:
“Update on my brother Rick Still, he has 6 broken ribs, broke his shoulder and (has) a concussion and a little bleeding around his head he is awake thanks for all the prayers and people reaching out.”
Still’s injuries were confirmed by Ocean Downs director of racing Peter Szymanski on Monday morning (Aug. 25).
“We would like to thank and give credit to the on-track medical staff, firefighters and state troopers for their quick response to assist the injured drivers,” said Szymanski.
Also according to Szymanski, Porter suffered some head trauma that scans proved to be negative, but was treated for cuts and abrasions with stitches for his lip then released from the hospital.
In addition, Foster escaped serious injury suffering a sprained ankle when he landed on his feet after being catapulted from his race bike, reported Szymanski.
“The three horses are all fine except for minor scrapes and bruises,” added Szymanski.
Those horses are Everything B Cool (Still), Amarula (Foster) and Mr McDragon (Porter).
