Lexington, KY — On Wednesday (Sept. 3) The Red Mile will conduct fourth round legs of the $80,000 Kentucky Championship Series, $30,000 Kentucky Commonwealth Series, $15,000 Golden Rod Series and $10,000 Kentucky Wildcat Series for sophomore trotting fillies. Winnpanzee seeks her third consecutive victory and second in Championship Series action at the Lexington facility.
Can Torrisi turn the tables on Winnpanzee?
Winnpanzee was assigned post position two and will have Yannick Gingras holding the lines for trainer Ron Burke. The daughter of Gimpanzee-Winndevie is 5-2 on the morning line and captured her first engagement in the Championship Series in her first attempt in a lifetime best 1:52.

On Wednesday she will be seeking her third consecutive win and fourth in her last five starts since being purchased privately by her trainer, Bradley Grant and Weaver Bruscemi. She was previously trained by Trond Smedshammer and owned by Purple Haze Stables.
Winnpanzee commenced her foray in the Bluegrass from Burke’s shedrow with a third in the Commonwealth Series. Her first win for her new connections was in the next leg of that same series before stepping up in class for her second consecutive triumph.
The filly has banked $115,820 with a record of 16-4-5-2 and was bred by Ola Yoder.
Trained by Nancy Takter, Torrisi (Tim Tetrick) will leave from post position six in the field of 10 and is 7-2 on the morning line. The daughter of Walner-Barn Girl was second behind Winnpanzee last week as the favorite, but the filly has been keeping top company. She competed in the Delmonica, the Hambletonian Oaks, the Delvin Miller Memorial and the New Jersey Sire Stakes Final.
Her sole victory from eight starts this season is in the Zweig division for her age, sex and gait, but she has earned $352,816 in two years of racing.
Bred by Crawford Farms, Torrisi was purchased by Pryde Stables, John Fielding, Caviart Farms and Herb Liverman for $110,000 at the 2023 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale.
Best Story Ever, Kadena meet again in Commonwealth Series
Assigned post position six Best Story Ever (Andy Miller) is 7-2 on the morning line for trainer Julie Miller. The daughter of Chapter Seven-Nixie Volo rebounded from a fifth-place finish in the second leg of this series to snap Kadena’s two-race win streak in a lifetime best 1:52.1 by a nose.
Owned by Wiesman Farms, Andy Miller Stable and Carmen Iannacone, the filly was a $185,000 selection at the 2023 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale.
Her record stands at 10-4-0-2 with all of her victories this season.
Best Story Ever was bred by Kentuckiana Farms and Eddie Gran.
The regally bred Kadena and her pilot, Andrew McCarthy, will endeavor to return to the winner’s circle this week. The daughter of Gimpanzee-Mission Brief will begin trotting from post position five and is 5-2 on the morning line.
Trained by Marcus Melander, the filly’s return to Kentucky after a fourth-place finish in her Hambletonian Oaks elimination seemed to be exactly what was required to refresh her form.
Kadena just missed being three-for-three over the red clay this year and set her lifetime mark of 1:52.1 in her first start in this series.
Bred by Mission Brief Stables, the filly was the 2023 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale’s highest-price horse of the opening session at $800,000.
The check to take her home was signed by Jeffrey Snyder and S R F Stable.
Kadena has earned $165,517 with a resume of 15-5-4-1.
Racing will continue through Sunday (Oct. 5), following a Sunday through Wednesday schedule. Fans and horsemen can look forward to 5:05 p.m. post times on Sundays, and 1:00 p.m. post times on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays throughout the meet.
The Red Mile will once again feature industry low takeout on the pari-mutuel side of things while offering fans a full buffet of wagering options including bookend daily double wagering exacta and trifecta wagering, 20 cent superfectas, Pick-3, Pick-4, Pick-5 and Pick-6 offerings and the Super Hi-5.
