Nichols, NY – Typhoon Banner N (Greg Merton) captured the featured $17,000 Open Pace at Tioga Downs on Saturday (Sept. 13).

Rio (Braxten Boyd) took the lead to the quarter in :26.2. Typhoon Banner N ($6.82) then took control with a lap to go and led to the half in :56. Prairie Rocknroll (Aaron Byron) was alongside Typhoon Banner N all the way down the backstretch, with Typhoon Banner N maintaining the lead to three quarters in 1:23.4.
As they reached the stretch, Rio came all out after leader, but Typhoon Banner N was too strong and won by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:52. Livonjaxandqueens (Kyle DiBenedetto) finished third.
Typhoon Banner N is 9-year-old gelding by Bettor’s Delight. He is trained by Joe Bongiorno for owners Philip Steinberg, JB Racing, and Barbara Bongiorno Stable. It was his fourth win this season. He now has 29 career victories.
Braxten Boyd had a driving hat trick. Greg Merton and Jim Pantaleano had driving doubles. Amanda Fine and David Dewhurst had training doubles.
Tioga Downs returns to live racing on Thursday (Sept. 18) with a post time of 6:15 p.m.
